மலர் தூவும் கருமேகங்களும்
மண்மணக்கும் தமிழினமும்
முடிவிலா காதல் முத்தங்களும்
முடிவுறா அல்ப ஆசைகளும்
கலப்பு மணங்களும்
விதவையும் விபச்சாரமும்
காறி உமிழும் வெறுப்பும்
குத்திக் கிழிக்கும் பகட்டும்
வளையா விறைக்கும் மொழியும்..
ம்......... ஊஹும்..!!

OPINION

Soon after we meet a person, read a new book, encounter a new piece of art or just think about the universe anew, we tend to create opinions. Clouds of them which would surround the people and objects concerned, whenever we revisit them.

Mighty Men… Are We??

Fine..!! Male chauvenism has nothing to do with this topic. In fact, ‘men’ here stands for the whole Human race. Most of us (humans) believe that we are the most superior race among living beings. We have many reasons, for claiming so, which would amply convince only our minds. But most of us do not realise that what we are doing also is a type of chauvenism, which is yet to be named. We are, perhaps, the only species to work AGAINST NATURE and to me, humans seem to be the weakest among all the living creatures.
First of all, I could not comprehend the basis of the assessment (done by humans again) of the intelligence levels and the number of senses of all lives which conclude that Humans are the wisest and hence superior. This appears to be the the mother of all the stupid researches (not all the researches are stupid though) we humans do. People who could take some time out in browsing the facts and figures and arguing in support of such research findings could, first, hold your temper for some time. I know that it’s quite possible to provide scientific evidences which would again be in favour of humans. But, it could never be fair to draw comparisons across different living species on a same scale and conclude superiorities based on that. Leave away the animals which we could see with our naked eyes. We are not intelligent enough to understand the acumen of even microorganisms. They are, at times much advanced than any of us.
The worst outcome of this attitude is the culture of TRILLIONS of cattle and poultry just to kill them premature to serve our hunger. No. Please don’t bring in the ‘food chain’ in rescue of the non-vegetarianism. All the animals which become our food are artificially cultured and they are not from forests or farms. If we support this, we should then have the broad mindedness to provide our kids as food for animals. We simply will not be able to withstand if nature raises up against us. (Watch the movie THE BIRDS by Alfred Hitchcock, to understand this line better)
Most of us may have ‘verbal communication’ as another reason which classifies humans to be better. But we do not realise that we are ignorant of the communication methods of not just large animals but even ants and flies.Are we capable of producing our own food? Can we, with our SIX senses, ever sense a TSUNAMI which is a few miles away from the shore? Can we hear the sounds which are outside the range of 20 Hz - 20 KHz ? There are millions of such criteria under which our brains badly fail when compared to those of others. Should not we conclude that they are better?
We have got to understand that EACH organism on this UNIVERSE has its significance and NO single organism could ever be superior to any other organism, on any scale of comparison. It’s enough of humans taking the nature to be granted to them and bringing chaos to the world. It’s high time we become conscious of our brutalities against other lives and the NATURE and try to come out of the myth that humans are the wiser lot, by starting to use our SIXSTH SENSE, if we really have one.

Tribute to my mother tongue .. Tamil

Having learnt with all interest,
The language of the lords as they call,
I was named among the bards, the best!
Now waiting in queue at heaven’s hall

Thrilled I was, to hear gods’ words
In the language I best understood
Beautiful were the songs to me
And without a clue others stood

Sudden attention caught my mind,
At a sight so majestic and strange.
Bharathi sang, to reach the men behind,
In a voice so loud, at a lofty range.

All ears were the gods, to this poet,
To get the lessons in Tamil very clear.
Panini, among others, was sitting so quiet.
Bettering his sight by removing the tear.

To go near the poet, while no one dared
Panini, The maker of Sanskrit grammar
Went near Bharathi and declared
That Tamil is the best, amid huge clamour

To learn Tamil, my mother tongue, at times,
Had been as bitter to me as neem, and now
The very thought of the mistake I did
Makes me unfit to go near bharathi and bow.

He has predominantly written in TAMIL, a classical language with great heritage.
He was the FIRST CARTOONIST of INDIA
He not only just knew many prominent INDIAN languages but had mastered many of them.
